.
His research endeavors are extensive. He obtained an NIH-grant for research on the amniotic membrane contact lens, technology for which he received a US patent. In 2001, Dr. Wang co-founded a biotech company with Vanderbilt, EyeVU , which has successfully produced the world's first amniotic contact lens . This lens technology is based on the principle of "tapping the fountain of youth" by taking advantage of the environment of scarless wound healing process in babies prior to birth. In 2001, Dr. Wang and his colleagues published a paper in the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery describing a laboratory demonstration of the scar reduction of the amniotic lens technology.
His research in the arena of refractive surgery has helped to improve the technologies used in this field. His research team has contributed to presentations at international refractive surgery conferences since 1997. His work on "Hyperopic shift after PTK" was named the "Best refractive surgery presentation" at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery Annual meeting in Seattle , Washington in 1998. His current research interest in refractive surgery focuses on topographic changes after refractive surgery, and the development of the next generation imaging technology.
He is a former panel consultant to the US FDA Ophthalmic Device Panel which oversees US refractive technologies, and was a primary reviewer for LASIK at the FDA meeting on LASIK in July of 1999. He specializes in detection and management of corneal diseases, and edited the text Corneal Dystrophies and Degenerations published by the American Academy of Ophthalmology in 2002.
He has been teaching refractive surgery techniques since 1997, and certifies surgeons on the VISX platform.· As the director of the Wang Vision Institute , he runs a busy refractive surgery complication clinic and sees patients weekly for consultation of refractive surgery complications referred in by his colleagues and patients. The center is equipped with state-of-the-art technology which allows insight into patients symptoms other doctors may not be able to appreciate.
Dr. Wang has extensive experience in laser treatment for myopia, astigmatism and hyperopia. His area of expertise includes both scientific research and clinical treatment. As the founding director of the Wang Vision Institute, Dr. Wang has built a world class state-of-the-art laser vision center in middle Tennessee. Dr. Wang and his team provide a wide range of laser treatment, including photo refractive keratectomy (PRK), laser in-situ keratomileusis (LASIK), Visian ICL implantation, and conductive keratoplasty (CK). As a fellowship-trained specialist in cornea and external diseases who routinely performs cataract surgery, corneal transplantation and novel surgical techniques for anterior segment reconstruction, Dr. Wang is frequently consulted for the management of anterior segment complications and can give you the assurance you need when considering surgery for visual correction.
